Spacing Out

"I was always worrying about what was going to happen next, so I didn’t make an effort to do my homework"

"I believe I was on automatic pilot during those years to be sane today."

"I found that I couldn’t focus or really concentrate like I used to be able to. My mind was always thinking about what would happen when I got home, what hell would I have to deal with today."

Spacing out makes it harder to learn new things. Some people call this dissociation or daydreaming. It may become such a habit that we don’t know when we are doing it. We often space out when we feel confused or anxious: exactly how many of us feel when we try to learn something new. Then we have gaps when we miss things, like what the teacher says, or miss tests, or fail to complete work on time.

*If you have just listened to the story and found it hard you may need to take a break and take care of your "heart" before moving to this "head" work. You can leave and press pause when you feel bad and come back when you're ready.
